Learn about the activities of the AURORA hub in its community at the Campus Sur of the Technical University of Madrid. They are currently planning more than 15 activities for the upcoming academic year 2023/2024. The first of these activities took place on Friday, September 29th, coinciding with the European Researchers’ Night. The event involved participation from over 400 European cities, and providing the public with access to a wide range of research developments. In this map, you can find detailed information about the activities carried out throughout Spain.
The AURORA project also took part in the 23rd edition of the European Researchers’ Night with a series of activities that covered the entire day, focusing on providing participants with practical tools to make behavioural changes in energy matters.
The event started in the morning with an Arduino workshop, where around 60 students took part. They created their own energy sensor, guided by members of the AURORA team, following the success of the first edition held last April (more info).
In the afternoon, a workshop delved into understanding the climate crisis and discussed the role we have as citizens in such an uncertain climate scenario as the one we are now experiencing. Later, several photovoltaic installations were visited, including the oldest bifacial (two-sided) PV installation in the world. The workshop then explored our energy behaviour using the AURORA Energy App, a mobile application for citizen science that will provide personalized information about the impact of our energy decisions. To ensure that the activity was enjoyed by the whole family, childcare services were provided where the youngest members of the household could build their own solar creatures, accompanied by researchers from the Technical University of Madrid (more info).
In total about 100 people attended this event. We were delighted that the EU Researchers’ Night, organized by AURORA, received direct support from the Regional Councillor of Universities, Science, and Education, Mr. Emilio Viciana. He visited us along with a delegation of members from the Madrid Foundation for Science and Technology and the Rector of the UPM.
