Brilliant blending! We're delighted to hear Government's support of blending up to 20% hydrogen by volume! This is the culmination of eight years of work for the Progressive Energy team:💡 from an idea working with Cadent Gas Limited and Northern Gas Networks to turn this into an innovation bid;🤝 to creating the HyDeploy Consortium, resulting in a multimillion pound research project;🏭 to running numerous trials - at Keele University, Winlaton and with industrial partners such as Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, Unilever, Lucideon and more;🎤 with many presentations;📑 and 1000s of pages of evidence….https://lnkd.in/gggDeq9s

A quarter of a century! We've now just about recovered from celebrating our 25th anniversary this week. And we did it in style!Starting off the day by volunteering for THE COTSWOLD CANALS TRUST to clear the canal our office overlooks (and which has hosted many a lunchtime walk), followed by skittles at our local pub, we all got scrubbed up to party the night away. From our three founders, who are all still very involved in the team, to the 40-strong team of today, we are very much looking forward to the next quarter of a century.

FAQs

What are the prospects for hydrogen? ›

The prospects of hydrogen as a sustainable fuel have garnered increasing interest as countries strive to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Hydrogen has been identified as a potential solution for decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors, such as heavy industry, transport, and heating.

Why is hydrogen important to net zero applications? ›

The use of hydrogen in hard-to-decarbonize sectors reduces emissions and dependency on DACs. CCU may not reduce industrial GHGs, but it does allow CO2 to be used instead of sequestered. Hydrogen plays an important role in achieving ambitious net-zero emission targets.

What are the prospects for hydrogen in the future energy system? ›

Hydrogen can help tackle various critical energy challenges.

It offers ways to decarbonise a range of sectors – including long-haul transport, chemicals, and iron and steel – where it is proving difficult to meaningfully reduce emissions. It can also help improve air quality and strengthen energy security.

Is there a future for hydrogen energy? ›

In the (near) future, hydrogen technology advancements could see ships, heavy-duty vehicles, and even rail transport systems driven by hydrogen. The hydrogen economy extends to creating feedstocks like ammonia for fertilizers, methanol production, and refining oil.

Why is hydrogen so important in the energy industry? ›

Why is it important? Hydrogen is a versatile energy carrier, which can help tackle various critical energy challenges. Today, hydrogen is mainly used in the refining and chemical sectors and produced using fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas, and thus responsible for significant annual CO2 emissions.

Why do we need hydrogen for energy? ›

Hydrogen can be produced from diverse domestic resources with the potential for near-zero greenhouse gas emissions. Once produced, hydrogen generates electrical power in a fuel cell, emitting only water vapor and warm air.

What are the three most important uses of hydrogen? ›

Hydrogen can be used to power vehicles, generate electricity, power industry and heat our homes and businesses. It could make a huge difference on our carbon emissions and will be critical to achieving net zero.

Is hydrogen going to be the future? ›

So hydrogen is essentially the key to our future as it will become a decisive factor for ensuring a steady energy supply. It can replace fossil fuels across the board, including energy-intensive industries. Hydrogen is produced in electrolyzers.

Is hydrogen a thing of the future? ›

The surge of investment in hydrogen is testament to its potential. Electrolysis deployment reached record high levels in 2021, with over 200MW of additional capacity added, three times more than in 2020. The International Energy Agency's (IEA) Hydrogen Projects Database shows nearly 1,500 low-carbon projects.

Is hydrogen a good investment? ›

Hydrogen energy has growth potential but only one stock is worth investing in. The hydrogen business has long been of interest to investors because it has the potential to provide everything from fuel to vehicles to power to the electric grid. But it's been hard to build a sustainable business on hydrogen's potential.

What will the price of hydrogen be in 2025? ›

In 2025, levelized costs of hydrogen are expected to amount to 6.90 U.S. dollars per kilogram. The U.S. hydrogen market is projected to generate up to 140 billion U.S. dollars and offer 700,000 additional jobs by 2030.
